Weingut Feiler-Artinger : Highest Quality Austrian Wines

0
Weingut Feiler-Artinger - Singapore Newspaper

The vinification of great wines with depth, structure and elegance is the goal of the winemaker Kurt Feiler. Our wines are a symbiosis of the soil, the climate and men.

The “Weingut Feiler-Artinger” is a family business. Katrin and Kurt Feiler run it in 3rd generation. Kurt is responsible for the vineyards and the cellar. His wife Katrin Feiler is in the office, managing marketing and sales. Inge and Hans Feiler, the parents of Kurt, still help as much as possible.

The winery grows its grapes on 26 ha in the best vineyards around Rust. Since 2008 the whole production is done bio-dynamic according to “Respekt-BIODYN” standards. Since 2014 three cows help us to mow the green cover between the rows in winter.

The soils and the very special micro-climate on the slopes of the Ruster Hügelland (a chaine of small hills) at the west bank of lake Neusiedl are ideally suited for producing the so called “Trilogy of Rust”, i.e. white, red, and noble sweet wines. The Feiler-Artinger estate is maybe the only winery, which is world class with the quality of their wines in all three wine types. The winery is well known for its fruity, full-bodied dry white wines. The reds, especially the blend “Solitaire”, are some of the best in Austria and gain international recommendations. But the very special wines are the sweets, the “Ruster Ausbruch”. These noble sweet wines, made of 100% botrytised grapes are together with Sauternes and Tokaji the best sweet wines in the world.

This 2019,Weingut Feiler-Artinger has joined Singapore Newspaper Wines, Spirits and Beers Competition and won a Four Gold Medal and Two Silver Medal. Here are the list of wines:

Blaufränkisch Ried Ruster Umriss dry – 2015

Awarded Gold by Singapore Newspaper

The grapes for this Blaufränkisch come from the calcareous Riede outline. Mash fermentation takes about 2 weeks, then malolactic fermentation and aging in a large wooden barrel for a period of 9 to 12 months. Dark ruby garnet, hints of dark berries, blackberry confit, plums, sour cherries and almonds. Juicy fruit texture on the palate, extra sweet, again dark berries, elegant acid-tannin-style, fine spicy oak with good pressure on the finish. Modern Blaufränkisch style!

Solitaire dry – 2016

Awarded Gold by Singapore Newspaper

Blend of 81% Blaufränkisch, 11% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon. Strong ruby garnet with a dark core, ripe blueberries, rose hips, hints of chocolate, vanilla and coconut. Substantial and complex on the palate, sweet berry confit, gentle roasted aromas, silky tannins, charming and accessible, sour cherries and nougat in the finish.

Pinot Noir Ried Ruster Umriss dry – 2016

Awarded Gold by Singapore Newspaper

The location Gertberg is the highest located Ruster Riede. It closes to the north to the location outline. The location is flat, like a high plateau and therefore one of the windiest in the area. The barren, quick-drying soil is ideal for the grape variety Pinot noir. In the situation Gertberg we have 1998 on weak support (161-49) the French Pinot Noir clones 114, 115 and 667 planted.
Due to exact, strict green harvest and high maturity we get every year only a very small harvest – it is only 4 or 5 Barrels brought as Gertberg on the market.
The wine is fermenting on the mash in an open vat. The mash is defeated daily during fermentation up to 3 times a day. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and maturation in oak barrels.

Traminer Beerenauslese sweet – 2016

Awarded Gold by Singapore Newspaper

Traminer is the variety that we only harvest and grow as sweet wine. In 2016 we were able to harvest grapes with beautiful noble rot at the beginning of December. This wonderful Beerenauslese is the tasty result!

Bright golden yellow. Very intense rose aroma in the nose and on the palate; very full-bodied with a wonderful sweetness and acidity; fresh on the palate and very long finish.

Neuburger dry – 2017

Awarded Silver by Singapore Newspaper

The Neuburger is an old Austrian indigenous grape variety. It produces beautiful, elegant wines with a typical, very pleasant tart, the so-called “Nusserl”, on the finish.
In the vineyard of the Neuburger highest demands on the care and care of the winegrower. Therefore, the cultivation is decreasing more and more. Currently, only about 550 of the 44,000 hectares of Austrian vineyards Neuburger. We love Neuburger and therefore have more than 1.5 hectares in cultivation!
The Neuburger loves dry, warm years, like 2016 and delivers in these really big, highest elegant wines.

Ruster Ausbruch sweet – 2016

Awarded Silver by Singapore Newspaper

The Ruster Ausbruch Pinot Cuvée is, as the name implies, a cuvée from the Pinot, ie Burgundy varieties.
The vintage 2016 consists of Pinot Blanc (Pinot Blanc), Pinot gris (Ruländer) and Chardonnay. The wines are always at least partially fermented and matured in new oak barrels. Therefore, this Ruster outbreak is the creamiest and most elegant in the assortment.
A wonderful wine with ripe cheese and cheese with blue or green mold cultures.

BOTAS DE BARRO GARNACHA TINTORERA, ALMANSA 2016
Awarded Gold by Singapore
Almansa is one of Spain ́s best kept secrets. Its indigenous grape, Garnacha Tintorera, has the unique characteristic of coloured flesh in addition to its red coloured skin. As a result, the grape produces wine of intense colour. Located on the southern flat plains its semi-arid climate together with low fertile soils ensure low yielding vines. The region produces aromatic wines of deep colour with good tannic structure.
BOTAS DE BARRO TINTA DE TORO, TORO 2016
Awarded Gold by Singapore
Toro is one of the oldest wine regions in Spain and  is  considered as one of the most premium regions for the production of great red wines. Thanks to its extreme temperatures and dry climate, here the grape Tempranillo,  known locally as Tinta de Toro,  produces full bodied wines with great aromatic complexity and an incredibly intense colour. Some of the oldest vineyards in the world (140 years and older) can be found in this region thanks to its sandy soils that protected the area from the devasting phylloxera plague at the end of the 19th Century. These are also some of the lowest yielding vines in the world!!
MI TRACTOR AZUL TORO 2017
Awarded Gold by Singapore
Ruby red in the glass with a medium intense aroma of ripe, warm blackberries, cherries and a little licorice. In taste, the fruit gets a little warmer, and we again find cherries, cherries, licorice and a green, branched note. Quite simple notes. Dry with medium acid and a tummy tuck of yet immature tannin, which scratches slightly in the oral cavity. Along with a relatively high alcohol, it must have some beef to tear into.
BOTAS DE BARRO MONASTRELL JUMILLA 2017
Awarded Silver by Singapore
Jumilla is located between the mediterranean coast and the Castilla La Mancha high, flat arid plains and with its semi arid “continental-mediterranean” climate it is the driest wine region in Spain. Monastrell, the star grape, produces wines of intense colour, good structure with rounded tannins and intense fruit flavours (ripe black berry fruits, cherries, strawberries and blackcurrants)
MI TRACTOR AZUL ALMANSA 2017
Awarded Silver by Singapore
One of Spains best kept secrets Largely known for its production of deeply colored red wines that were supplied to other regions. Bush vines planted at 3 x 3 m. Organically grown and hand-picked grapes like in the traditional manner. The land is ploughed to keep competing vegetation growing between the vines away. Rainfall is scare in this region, so we need to ensure the vine receives all the water possible as we do not use artificial irrigation. Only natural methods are used.

SAS Roland Grangier : Wines of Charms on Rhône

0
SAS Roland Grangier - Singapore Newspaper

SAS Roland Grangier estate is located in Chavanay in the northern Rhône coast, in the heart of the Pilat Regional Nature Park.

Agriculture has always been part of the family history whether in breeding, arboriculture or viticulture.

Marc MANOA, grandfather of Roland was a farmer he cultivated vines in the town of Pélussin, he made wine and had a breeding of dairy cows.

Charles GRANGIER, the father of Roland, after a few years spent on the exploitation of his brother-in-law, settled in the town of Chavanay by creating a farm in polyculture (vines and fruit trees).

In 2002 Roland GRANGIER created Domaine Grangier and took over the vineyards of parents and a neighbor, growing by planting in Saint Joseph White, Saint Joseph red and Condrieu to destine the estate to the exclusive cultivation of the vine.

After two years of work, in 2012 Roland and Céline GRANGIER have moved into a new cellar. A winery, a wine cellar and a tasting cellar were built.

Roland takes care of the vineyard as well as the wine and the reception of the customers, his wife Céline the second and deals particularly with the administrative tasks, the reception of the customers, the salons, the orders.

SAS Roland Grangier vineyard is driven in respect of the environment to preserve our terroir. In a constant concern for the quality of our wines since 2012, a cellar has been built to control better the winemaking, aging and wine preservation temperatures.

SAS Roland Grangier are present from the plantation of the vine to the marketing passing through all the stages of the works of the vine and winemaking.

The estate consists of 8 hectares of vines across the appellations of St Joseph and Condrieu with sloping vineyards planted on the classic granite soil of the region which gives the wines such character. The vineyards are managed sustainably, and a new winery containing state of the art equipment was built in 2012. The wines tread the perfect line between tradition and modernity, displaying classic expressions of the local varieties and terroirs.

Grass is left between one row of vines, whilst the other is worked using different tractor attachments, which decompacts, allowing good aeration of the soil, maintaining  microbial life while obtaining a sufficient level of organic matter. No pesticides are used.

In order to control the yields, the vines are disbudded just after bud break occurs. De-leafing of the vines takes place in summer to ensure a good aeration and optimize the sun exposure. Green harvesting is carried out to control the yields and to obtain grapes rich in sugars, tannins and polyphenols. The grapes are harvested manually, from mid September to early October.

Grapes are picked and sorted manually in the vineyard and also in the winery. Alcoholic fermentation occurs for 3 weeks in temperature controlled vat for 15 days with daily pump overs and punch downs. The wine is aged for 18 months in French barrels.

This 2019, SAS Roland Grangier has joined Singapore Newspaper Wines, Spirits and Beers Competition and won a gold medal:

SAINT JOSEPH COTE GRANITS 2016

Grape Varieties: 100% Syrah.

Farming Practices: Contains Sulphites.

Tasting Notes: An impressive successor to the 2015, Grangier’s 2016 Saint Joseph Cote Granits is silky and elegant, with violets, resinous herbs, peppery spice, cherries and raspberries. It’s only medium-bodied, but it packs in plenty of flavor and complexity, finishing long and fine.
