“It’s like the sunrise, seeing the light, recognizing the region and showing how we can be in the sky among the best wine producers in Europe.” – Svetozar Janevski
Tikveš Winery was founded in 1885 in a region with centuries-old winemaking tradition, blessed with perfect natural conditions, warm and passionate people and a lively, authentic culture. In 2003, through new ownership and investment, the winery has taken a holistic approach to making wines, from the cultivating of the grapes, to harvesting, to wine making, to storage and to the final product in the bottle. Combined with innovation, this has led to increased quality of wines, introduction of new varietals and to international awards placing the winery on the global stage.
Their Classic Line includes twelve wines from different varietals. The white wine selection includes Chardonnay, Grenache Blanc, Riesling (Alexandria), Smederevka, Temjanika and Traminec plus a Kratošija Rozé. Red wines included in the Classic Line are: Alexandria (Cabernet Sauvignon), Cabernet Sauvignon, Kratošija, Merlot and Vranec.
The Alexandria Line of cuvées exhibits the winery’s art of blending combined with affordability. The Alexandria Cuvée – White is a blend of Chardonnay and Riesling, the Alexandria Cuvée – Rosé is a blend of Vranec and Merlot, and the Alexandria Cuvée – Red is a blend of Merlot, Vranec and Cabernet Sauvignon featuring vivid forest fruits such as raspberries, cherries, plums, red and black currant with a well-rounded body and an enjoyable finish.
The Tikveš premium line of wines, Special Selection, embodies quality enology capturing the essence and best attributes of the individual varietals. The Special Selection white wines include Chardonnay, Grenache Blanc, Muscat Ottonel, Rkatsiteli, Sauvignon Blanc and Temjanika. Special Selection reds feature wines from the Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Vranec varietals.
Everyday deserves a toast with a glass of wine. As the name suggests, some things are timeless. Tikveš Winery Classic line is a true example of that. Offering the best value for money, these wines represent a priceless addition to your every meal.
Tikves – Barovo – 2016
Awarded Gold by Singapore Newspaper
The 2013 Barovo is made 65% from the indigenous grape Kratosija and 35% from the other indigenous grape, Vranec, and aged 12 months in French oak. The wine is soft, ripe and reminded me of one of Larry Turley’s less-potent Zinfandels that he is so famous for producing. The alcohol is around 14% and the wine shows ripe, heady, briary raspberry and black cherry fruit, Mediterranean roasted herbs, earth, pepper and spice. It is impressive, but does come across as a very well-made and supple Zinfandel. This is very good value from the Republic of Macedonia. Drink over the next 3-4 years.
Dark red color with purple reflection. Complex aromas of dry blackberries, raspberries and dry plums. Ideally balanced acids with soft tannins, which make this wine full and extractive with a powerful structure and a long juicy finish.
Domaine Lepovo Grand Cuvee 2015 – Awarded Gold by Singapore Newspaper
Aged in oak barrels for 18 months.
This perfectly balanced blend of Vranec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot exhibits pronounced dried plum and black cherry aromas combined with sweet spices and subtle hints of coffee and tobacco.
The sweet sensation felt on the nose, reflects further on the taste, which is dominated by sour cherry and red currant with a lingering aftertaste.
The recommended serving temperature is 16-18˚C, suggested pairing with all kinds of roasted lamb dishes.
Has plenty of ageing potential.
