Laficaia : Three Generations of Winemaking

Must read

“Find you once again in the shade of the fig tree, where the vine embraces the sky…”

In 2013 Clemente Guasti’s nephew Enrico Piantato, decided to leave the legal profession to pursue his dreams and continue the long family tradition.

The fertile land of Casalotto di Mombaruzzo, the birthplace of his grandfather, together with the wonderful climatic conditions favour the cultivation of grapes and other fruits such as figs and olives.

And it is precisely the memory of the fig tree, under which his grandfather Clemente used to rest, which is the source of inspiration for the birth of “Laficaia”.

And so the fig tree, fruit and tree, symbol of immortality and fertility, sacred to Dionysus, the God of wine, is destined to remain an emblem of life capable of uniting the earth to heaven.

Laficaia – Barbera d’Asti DOCG – 2017

Awarded Gold by Singapore Newspaper

Barbera is the third most planted grape in Italy. The grape has its origin in the Piedmont, near Monferrato. Here he is cherished by winemakers, because he gives good yields and is fairly easy to grow. In the Langhe they say: “Barbera is the wine you drink while the Nebbiolo is maturing”.

Tasting note
The Barbera d’Asti of Laficaia is dark ruby red in color, with a tendency to grenade red as it ages. The scent is intense, fruity and slightly ethereal with aromas of cherries, blackberries and currants, with a hint of spice. The taste is fresh and elegant, nicely layered, low tannin and a nice balance.

Vineyard
The grapes of the Barbera d’Asti come from the young vineyards in the hills around Nizza Monferrato. The bottom has a medium texture with limestone and clay soil.

Vinification
The grapes of the Barbera are gently pressed and then a short flaking is applied, whereby the hat is gently pumped over. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, after which the wine matures for a few months in stainless steel tanks.

Wine / food
The Barbera d’Asti is a delicious wine for everyday life. The combination with beautiful pastas and appetizers makes it even better.
