Domaine de la Dozonnerie is a family farm located in Chinon in the heart of the Loire Valley. Jean-François Delalay represent the third generation winegrower. The first vine was planted by his grandfather in 1936, the date of the creation of the AOC Chinon appellation of origin. Then his father continued to develop the farm by planting vines for thirty years on land tough but suitable for the vine.
Jean-François Delalay are very passionate about growing vines since the age of 16, he followed two years of studies in winemaking oenology. He started my first professional experience in 1984 in a winery in their region, while working partially on the vineyard of his father.
He settled since 1990 on the family estate and now operating 12 ha of vines. His vineyard extends over the slopes of Chinon overlooking the Vienne Valley, a tributary of the Loire, from where you can see the fortress of Chinon. The estate is one of the few in the Chinon AOC appellation to own the entire vineyard on the hillsides, thus benefiting from an exceptional exposure.
This is more of an “aging” vineyard that is gaining maturity. All criteria are thus combined to develop wines of great expression. From Chenin grape, harvested on a small plot facing south on clay limestone soil.
The wines he produce came from the Cabernet Franc grape and results of a precise blend of grapes from different terroirs of his estate, as well as vines of different ages. In each of the typicities of his vintages, his terroirs are rigorously selected and vinified separately, in order to obtain wines of character.
He produce mainly red wines on loamy clay soils, but also a little rosé wine and in a more confidential way white wine.
The vineyard is conducted in reasoned control, grass and soil tillage, an essential choice to respect our environment and the wines that come from it.
